This baby is phenomenal. I am going to say that upright. Goal Zero Yeti 1400 lithium is a great portable solar generator for vanlife, camping and general backup power.

We have owned our for almost two years now, and it is about time I write a little about it. Why did we buy it in the first place?

First, the versatility. We bought this particular one to be able to be off-grid for quite some time before having to connect to mains. We love the fact that it is so easy to move around. Well, it weighs just under 20 kg but it has great handles to carry it.

The reason we opted for a portable solar generator is that we wanted something that we could use both in our off-grid cabin and in our van. Since we figured we would not be in both dwellings at the same time, we chose to buy a setup of this Goal Zero Yeti 1400 and a Goal Zero Boulder solar panel that we could move between the van and the cabin.

This meant a bit more money upfront, but on the other hand we did not have to buy two separate stationary systems.

So on to the second point, how have we been using it? For charging phones, tablets, laptops, electrical tools for construction and so on. We also have a coffee machine, a DeLonghi Dedica that we run off of it. Every cup of coffee uses around 1 percent of the battery, more than charging our tools. Unless we are making Kokkaffe or presso of course. So when we are not making delicious espressos the charge on the power pack lasts us well over a month.

Smoothies are a must in our family so we have been making them on the road as well. The wattage is enough for most coffee machines, mixers and blenders.

I mentioned we bought the Goal Zero Boulder solar panel as well to go with the power pack. The link shows you a 100W panel, we bought a 200W briefcase. To be honest, the first time we used it was only a few weeks ago. That goes to show how easy it is to plug in on the mains and charge the pack as is. We have yet to try the panel out a bit more before giving you any updates on that matter. It seems to work great though.

Our cabin is in the arctic woods, where the sun does not really reach the panels even during the midnight sun. And we have not found any solution for a custom roof rack on the van yet so we just use the kickstand on the panels when we need to top up.

As a conclusion from a long time user: If you are looking for quality, choose the Goal Zero Yeti 1400 lithium.

It is reliable, cool and still in mint condition.
